NEW DELHI: India hockey chief coach dismisses Roelant Oltmans. In view of the recent disappointing performance of the senior team of Hockey India, Hockey India has removed the head coach Roelant Oltmans from his post. Hockey India took this decision in a three-day high meeting of the High Performance and Development Committee on Saturday. The decision was made on the basis of the performance of the men’s senior team’s World League semi-final tournament and the European Tour.

In 2013, Oltmans was appointed the Director of High Performance, after asking him if he was ready for the hard work of coaching, his answer was positive. After being dismissed, he said, “We all know (foreign coach) that India is not an easy country to work, especially in sports because there are many issues here. But I was ready for it from the beginning. When I accepted the offer, I knew that one day I would be sacked but I was ready for it.

This committee says that the Indian men’s team did not perform well on the World League semi-finals and European tour. But this decision has been done not only on the basis of past performance but also keeping in mind the future of the team. According to the committee, this decision has been taken keeping in view the upcoming Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, World Cup and 2020 Olympic Games.

Oltman has been associated with Indian hockey in different roles from 2013 to 2017. The Indian Hockey team, which is ranked 12th in the 2012 London Olympics, traveled upto 8th place in Rio, led by Oltman.
